You are a family therapist, do you also see individuals or not?
First and foremost, I am a Psychotherapist, trained and certified in different modalities. I do have a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy. Yes, I see individuals. I am able to work with one person, or more than one person, in the therapy session. My practice has been primarily made up of individuals and couples.
So, will you see my whole family?
If you have a family issue needing therapy, yes. I am trained as a systemic therapist and can treat your whole family. I am able to treat individuals and couples with an eye on the context of their Family System(s). I'll see your whole family to help you in your work to uncover how you form attachments.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. Typically I work in collaboration with doctors and other professionals who do prescribe, so if we determine you should be evaluated by a prescriber I will advise you how to find one that matches your needs.
Do you see people with substance abuse and addiction problems?
Yes. Persons in recovery who are networked and stabilized can benefit greatly from seeing a therapist. I have extensive experience providing psychotherapy to persons coping with substance use and abuse.
How do I know you are the right therapist for me?
It has consistently been my experience that when we meet to talk in person you will know right away whether I am a good fit for you or not. If in our evaluation session (s) you or I determine that you might be better helped by someone else, I will be happy to assist you by making a referral.
Do you take my insurance and how do I pay?
It may be possible to use your insurance for visits to my office, because I am "in-network" with many of the most common insurance carriers. However, the mental health benefits in your insurance plan may or may not provide reimbursement for psychotherapy services. You must call your insurance company and ask if services will be covered and if a deductible applies.
Do you Skype or video chat therapy?
Sometimes, it depends.
What should I expect from you?
That I will be listening to you in a deeply attentive, understanding and caring way. That I will support you in your journey even and especially when it is difficult. That at times I may even provoke you to be better and healthier than you thought you could be.
